AWARD PHOTOS

The operating achievement levels for the Top Gun Challenge award are as follows:

  • Basic Level: 1 million points

  • Aviator Level: 10 million points

  • ACE Level: 25 million points

  • Flight Commander: 50 million points

  • Squadron Commander: 100 million points

Challenge Rules:

  1. GMCC members only are eligible to participate. Members track and post their points on the annual score pages on the GMCC website.  For those who have not yet earned their basic level Top Gun award, they may carry forward their scores from January 1, 2009.  (scores must be posted on GMCC website).

  2. All past or new holders of the original Topgun Award start accumulating points on January 1 2010.  Everyone in this category start with 1 million points and continue to accumulate points towards the next highest award.

  3. The challenge award is for single operator's efforts at your home, mobile or portable station, guest station or DXPedition.  If you were an operator at a multi op station you may use a portion of the scores for your fractional part of the operation.  i.e.: if three ops in the multi you may accumulate one third of the final score.  All scores submitted to the web page are on the honor system.

  4. The Board has taken note of the fact that there are a couple of contests (a RTTY contest in particular) where an extremely high number of points are given despite low levels of QSO's. Therefore the Board reserves the right to exclude certain contests from the point accumulation towards the Top Gun Challenge Award.  Any problems or issues involving the award program will be resolved by the Board of Directors.

GMCC MARATHON AWARDS

Beginning on January 1, 2010 GMCC will sponsor a year long contest based on the

CQ Magazine DX Marathon Competition

The DX Marathon is an annual event sponsored by CQ Magazine which provides three categories for competitors.

  •  Limited
        A) QRP with a single yagi/tower no higher than 60 feet.
        B) 100W using dipole/vertical wire antennas.

  • Unlimited
        A) Any power level with any mix of any antennas/towers.

GMCC will parallel that activity by awarding certificates to our members who submit their applications to CQ Magazine.  In addition, GMCC will award certificates to any member who submits a score of at least 50 points to CQ Magazine.  Lastly, for the top three GMCC competitors in each category the Board of Directors is considering an additional token award to be determined.

For complete rules please go here.

The GMCC board would like to offer special thanks to Art K6XT who recommended the club try out a year long contest competition between its members.  The CQ Magazine contest which provides operating aides seemed to be a perfect fit.

GMCC Contest within a contest, for the CQ SSB WPX Contest on 3/27-28-2010

The Board is announcing a GMCC Contest within a contest, for the CQ SSB WPX Contest on 3/27-28.  General rules for the contest can be found on the CQ's webpage

http://www.cqwpx.com/rules.htm.  At the end of the contest, please send your score electronically as usual to the contest administrator.  Then, please send your score to the 3830 score summary website - we have a link on the GMCC Links page to it.  Once you get a copy of your score summary back from 3830, send your score results to our GMCC reflector so the Board can evaluate who won.  Please list your contest club as GMCC - it will be nice to get a good turnout for the contest!

1.  Plaque #1:  Open to GMCC Technicians on 10 Meters Only:
For this plaque, GMCCers who have a Technician license are encouraged to compete in the SSB WPX contest on 10 Meters only.  Obviously, you should restrict your power levels to that allowed by your license, use CQ's rules that apply to the contest, and use only the Tech license frequencies of 28.300 Mhz to 28.500 Mhz.   We hope the 10 meter band will cooperate with good openings to other states and DX towards the south.  In a recent contest, the band has opened in mid-day and in the afternoons allowing many of us to work South America, Carribean, and several worked KH6 and ZL on 10 meters.

2.  Plaque #2:  Open to GMCCer Low Power stations, All Bands:
The Board is also offering a plaque to the Low Power GMCC operator who wins the LP AB category within our club only.

We have several Techs within the club and we're hoping this will stir them up to get them active in contesting.  Maybe it will lead them to upgrade and compete in more contests within the future.  And, if you know of anyone who wants wants to compete in the GMCC contest within a contest, please have them send in their dues quickly.  The dues should be in the hands of our GMCC treasure, Carson Bell.
